Flight Suite is a nod to the 70s electronic concept album but dipped in often strange cinematic tonalities reminiscent of the music in the films of Hitchcock, Kubrick and Tarkovsky. Think early Floyd, Tomita, Vangelis and Tangerine Dream laced with strong musical leanings from Webern, Steve Reich, Takemitsu, Birtwistle and Boulez. The intention was a cinematic listening experience.

Flight Suite fuses "through composed", Systems and electroacoustic composition techniques. It was originally conceived on an 8bit computer using a sound generating technique called Frequency Modulation (FM) synthesis, one of the earliest commercially available digital synthesis techniques of the 1980s and a defining sound of that decade.

Most of Flight Suite's scores were written, between 1985 and 1989, using an 8bit MSX computer, the Yamaha CX5M. As such its sound is predominantly the sound of Frequency Modulation ( F.M.) synthesis.

Since its initial conception in 1985 Flight Suite adopted newer synthesis concepts and production technologies. As time progressed and new technologies permitted, the purely F.M. synthesis pieces were extended with others synthesis techniques into a sort of museum of digital sound synthesis. Here you will find Frequency Modulation, Physical Modeling, Spectral Additive, Modal, Microsound, Sampling, Granular, Subtractive, Signal modeling, Karplus Strong, Waveshaping and others.
